With the mouse: hold the button on the sea and the ship steers towards the pointer · drag up or down for more or less sail · double-click beside the ship to fire that broadside.
Ships marked with red corners are hostile to you. The small ring left of the compass shows the wind: the arrow is where it blows, the red wedge is the eye of the wind you cannot sail into, and the outline is your heading.
Buy where goods are cheap and sell where they are scarce; goods from distant regions pay best. Moor at the buoy off the pier. Out at sea you can drop anchor and send a party ashore: they make camp, and you choose who gathers timber, hunts, fetches water, raids nearby farms or scouts. You can weigh anchor and leave them at the camp, and fetch them later by anchoring nearby. A short-handed ship sets less sail and answers the helm slowly. Food and water are taken on in port or found ashore. Buy a treasure map at the tavern and the cache is marked on your chart.
